Cool Publishers: Fulgur Limited

•February 21, 2011 • 6 Comments

Since I am a very bibliophilic Person, I happen to spend a bit of my time finding books, printers, publishers and suppliers. Funny enough, it seems that the really cool books are not easy to find. Amazon offers a lot, but some publishers chose to sell their books only in limited Editions directly to the interested customer. This is not only true for magick and occult books, but also for philosophie and a lot of other interesting topics.

So I have decided to mention some of my findings here. If I review a publisher here, I own at least one of their books and tried the shipping from publisher to Germany. I will put a Link to every publisher I review here.

I will start with Fulgur Limited. Continue reading ‘Cool Publishers: Fulgur Limited’

The Hermeneuticon

•February 15, 2011 • 2 Comments

I just stumbled upon this really cool project:

The Hermeneuticon. These are actually a couple of projects around the Hermetic Library which are supposed to interlink the texts hosted in the library. This will eventually make the texts better accessible and will produce crosslinks which are otherwise hards to find. Since this is Wiki based, everything will be nicely searchable and hyperactive. I also see the really cool possibilty to bring your own research into print via the wikipedia “make your own book” tool.

The Webpage also hosts an Aleister Crowley Reference Desk which will be a document search tool “which allows students and researchers to execute various interesting and useful local and remote queries against a database of information built from The Libri of Aleister Crowley at Hermetic.com, which includes not only technical Thelemic Libri but also an extensive corpus of Crowley’s prose and poetry”

I think this is a great project and I am looking foreward to ts Evolution.

Learning to smell

Metallica – Of Wolf and Man

After I started to use Soaps without synthetical fragrances (see here), I realized that my olfactory senses became much more keen. You wouldn’t believe the difference! While people used to smell more or less of nothing (apart from the odd person here and there that would smell like a french brothel or an unwashed dog). Suddenly most people smell of something, usually underlined with a distinct chemical undertone. I can now tell by a short wiff if a person entering the bus or train is using Perfume, Shampoo, Showergel and whatnot.

Dorodango Home

The other day I stumbled upon a very interesting game played by japanese Children.

It is called make a “Hikaru dorodango”. The Children (and now also people of all ages and nations across the globe), make shiny sphere out of nothing but mud. I find this fascinating since it most definitely changed my perception of the ordinary mud out there.

As you can see on the picture from Bruce Gardner’s Webpage on this topic, the color of the dorodango changes due to the mud used. Mud is not mud, what a trivial but interesting insight.

Furthermore, it is not all too difficult to make a dorodango it seems, so maybe you want to do this with your kids like I will. Continue reading ‘Dorodango’

A magick potion: Coffee

Coffee

A magic Potion

Coffee is one of the magickal potions of our society. It is consumed at variouse places on earth in a lot of different styles. And although we are trying our very best to strip all magick off of that stuff, it still gives us this “Ahh, Coffee at last” feeling when we get a warm cup of it at work. This still happens (sometimes) with the most revolting, bitter tasting and burned watery something we get in the usual office.

It is also possible to add even more magick to it, curently we find the “Uh shit its an awful morning, but I hold on to my >>coffe to go<< which shows those drones that I am cool and relaxed” feeling attached to expensive low quality coffee. Continue reading ‘A magick potion: Coffee’

Open Enlightenment is a project dedicated to the honest and down-to-earth discussion of the very real and natural human phenomenon known as enlightenment.

For a quick overview of enlightenment and its historical significance, you can read our free ebook, Open Enlightenment: Isn’t it time we were honest about spirituality?

Magic(k) in every Day life

•October 28, 2010 • 2 Comments

The world of magic, okkult and spirituality is usually perceived as something which is different from our everyday life. We picture Yogis, Sadhus and Taoists who devote their lifes completely to the path of enlightment. Preferably they find some remote Spot to sit on and submerge in Meditation and generally being holy. After years and years of meditation about their inner self, they reach the Nirvana or Tao or how ever we care to call it. While this is probably a valid path, I dare say it is not the only path a human can take.

Wouldn’t the world be a strange place if the only way to enlightment and spirituality is by totally refusing to be in the world?

The Tree that is fruit and makes fruit

Thirst for Knowledge

The picture Thirst for knowledge by *sf314 on deviantART is one of my favourite Pictures I found at Deviant Art so far. We see at the same time and spot an Apple and the Appletree. This could represent the timeless “Tree of Life” which is the Beginning (the seed, the apple) and the Ending (the Tree) in one. Our way to this tree leads us over the mosaic pavement, which we chose when we ate from the other Tree, the “Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”. We are subjected to Duality, which washes over us in the deluge of Time.

In the background I find the writings and pictures of Man as we search for the way to the depicted tree. Also there I see the ever revolving Wheel of Life and Death which is broken by the Tree which is fruit and makes fruit.

Thanks to Sipos Ference for this great picture, I love it.

Remember the spot and wash … with soap

Aleppo Soap

Aleppo Soap

When my Wife was pregnant, I was looking out for a little gift for her. Women in pregnancy often welcome some “Feel good” things to rub on their bodys, bellys or maybe feet, so I was looking in that direction.

She herself bought already some Oils and Ointmanets to improve her overall body feeling. She also started reading up about her future relationship to her baby. Especially she learned something about the importance of her natural fragrance in the first weeks after birth.

An infant can locate its mother’s milk by the use of its nose alone. Babies smile when they recognize their mother’s odor, preferring it to the smell of any other woman – which, in turn, pleases the mother. This evolving and reciprocal situation build on the sense of smell plays a key part in creating an intimate relationship between mother and child. — Mandy Aftel in “Essence & Alchemy A Book of Perfume

So, the last thing you would want, I think, is to block or hinder that relationship by using a lot of chemical/synthetic fragrances. Continue reading ‘Remember the spot and wash … with soap’
