The Chameleons Vox

I really like teh 80ies Band “The Chameleons“. Especially I enjoy the fact, that Mark Burgess is telling us something. He keeps rerecording the same songs
Which undergo an evolution, change and tell their story over and over from different angles.

Mark Burgess on Second Skin: The song went through two titles before it finally became ‘Second Skin.’ It started it’s life as ‘Dreams In Celluloid’ and then became ‘Films’ and had different lyrics, dealing with the immortality of cinema stars. It evolved after I read a book about the study of ‘Near Death Experiences’ and subsequently dealt with another form of immortality altogether.

Mark Burgess recorded a lot of songs under different Band Names. I just recently stumbled across these Videos from Chamelons Vox, enjoy:

Webpage found: The Art of Barry William Hale

I know the art of the Australian based artist Barry William Hale from the outstanding publication
“Legion 49” from Fulgur. Since then I do visit his webpage every now and then and enjoy the occult
art done by him. Especially I like the fact, that you do see the sources of influence (Caribean Voodoo, Taoism, …)
for every artwork but you also see  his own view, his own insight.

And the insights of Barry William Hale are educated insights which draw from a lot of magickal experience,
at least thats how it does look to me. So in short, I like his art and his page.

So here is his Page:

Enjoy.

Cool Publishers: Scarlet Imprint

It has been a while since I posted on “cool” publishers. But I most definitely need to post about this one.
Scarlet Imprint.

From my reviewed Publishers this one has, in my opinion, the most outstanding Books. Where
Fulgur delivers high quality occult Books with a high focus on visual Art, Scarlet Imprints focus
is more on the Poetry and Essay side. You will also find very well written and researched Books
about occult practise. I especially love the books about the African diaspora religions (“Palo Mayombe – The Garden of Blood and Bones”, “At the Crossroads”, …).

The most outstanding contents of scarlet imprint Books, in my opinion, are the occult essays.
They are always written by people who really know about the topic of the eassay and (this is the clue) they talk about topics which are usually not adressed openly at all. Examples are the book by John Michael Greer on Peak oil “The Blood of the Earth: An Essay on Magic and Peak Oil” or the Book “XVI” with very explosive essays (“Ramsey Dukes – XXXII, Not One Tower But Two The forbidden pleasures of 9/11 and the fight for freedom.” or “Dr George J Sieg – Occult War for the Aeon
Aeonic warfare from IOT, OTO, ONA to Evola and the church, as civilisations clash.”).

Here some comments on “XVI” taken from this (really cool) Podcast: Continue reading ‘Cool Publishers: Scarlet Imprint’

Travel-Ing.: Witnessing a nighttime seaside Babtism in Durban South Africa

•January 30, 2013 • 1 Comment

It was early, very early, around 3 in the Morning. I didn’t sleep for more then 30 hours and felt drowsy. Heavy mist hung over the Durban bay, the beach was deserted except for the small group of people that we where, when suddenly a deep, rolling Drum beat carried over through the mist. At first I ignored it, quite naturaly actually since I was at the beach with a whole lot of girls at my age and no other guys, but the heavy beat persisted and became louder.

Bomm, bomm, bomm … through the fog Silhouettes of slowly walking people appeared. They where all wearing white gowns  no I think those where actually robes! Yes they where wearing white robes as in “ritual gear”?!

Well … bomm, bomm, bomm, … around 20 robed figures marched down the foggy beach towards us. Under the first figures  a guy carried a giant drum in front of his breast. He was madly hammering his samba beater drumsticks left and right against the big membrane …. BOMM, BOMM, BOMM
Slowly and silently  (not counting the drumbeat “boom boom boom”) the procession advanced in our direction. The dense fog curled around the advancing group, sometimes it swallowed part or all of the robed silhouettes. Here and there I could see candles(?) or maybe torches held by the participants of this procession. I must say all in all a couple of cthulhu cults came to my mind, or maybe this is some sangoma voodoo magick ritual going on? All we could see where robes and here and there a black face under a hoody (in South Africa you do not get shot for wearing a hoody no matter if you are black, white or Indian and white hoodies may not be clan).

The Procession came to a halt about 200 m away from us. Women from the group started putting up candles on the beach in a cross like pattern while a group of four men undressed a fifth man. Bomm, bomm, bomm the Drumbeat was still steady and filled the morning air when the men advanced to the waters with their … victim? I really was not sure, they half dragged, carried or led him to the shore and into the water. The Waves where high that morning, maybe 1-2m not far from the shore and over 5m behind the “ditch” you find in Durban.

The Drummer followed the five men into the waves, drumming his beat until he was waist deep and the waves sometimes crashed onto his breast. He held his big drum up and kept drumming. The group led the half naked man into the higher waves and started to throw him into crashing waves. It seemed as if they tried to kill him, honestly that poor man was thrown into the waves by robed figures. As soon as he got back up to his feed they grabed him and threw him back in. This was performed several times. In the Meanwhile the women at the shore had a nice candle lit area prepared where they had food(?) and drink(?) unfortunately this was unclear to see through the mist. Just when we thought we are watching ritual murder they helped the man back out of the water, the drumming stopped -.

Back at the shore every one huged the man, kissed(?) him and the group proceeded to have a meal together. After about 30 minutes the group packed up and dissolved into the mist.

Only days later I found out that this was a christian sect babtising a new member. I guess it was the “LAst Supper” which was held after the babtism. The whole thing was very spooky and it sticks in my mind to this day.

The fragrance of Christmas

Kranz

If you ask your parents or grandparents about christmas, chances are high that they will remember “the fragrance” of Christmas best. If we are honest, we are trying to bring back the times, when not plastic toys and shopping was the main theme of Christmas. We want to have the so called “quality time” with our Kids and Family. We want our Kids not to remember a huge pile of presents, sweets and whatnot, but to remember the positive Feeling of this very special season of the year. In all times and in the old Religions the time around Christmas (Rauhnächte) have a special meaning as well and what will better open the gates to the other world but fragrance?

So this year me and my family deliberately thought about fragrances that would be fitting for this special time of the year.

Here some Ideas what can be done: Continue reading ‘The fragrance of Christmas’

Money, Art and Time

•November 19, 2012 • 2 Comments

Money in itself is “from the future”. Money, as we know it today, started about 1800.

Before that money reflected only actual Value, which was physically available.
During that time (and also rarely before) humans started to print a Value on a piece
of paper and to make that valid certified it with a name.
King so and so owes you 100 pieces of his gold (which he will digg up during next year)
Suddenly that piece of paper reflected a value from the future. It was at first actually there, still to be
dug up, but physically in your hands it existed only in the future. Later we base money on workforce and
even more esoteric values from the future.

The times before where based on the total, earthly stability of the past. As time and civilization moved on,
societey based itself more and more first on the watery present and today even the airy
future. The more distant the future we base our values on, the more instable and insecure
is the basement. We experience this on a daily basis when shares suddenly drop in value and somebody
looses all his money or when whole comercial zones suddenly become instable like the European union.

Art is somehow a part of the opposite. The Artist encapsulates a very moment, a piece of NOW, including
things like his personal feelings and basically his whole past. This very moment or length of time is now frozen
in time and transported into the now and the future to be reviewed not only by the artist but by others as well.
In different Artforms we find different moments frozen. A photographer as an example does not only capture
a part of himself as the observer, but also a moment in the world around him. Funny thought actually that
he captures a very moment he is not really participating in, he is busy taking a photo.

Now, and Adorno did not like that very thought, Art is assigned a Value in our society. We see today, that the Art
marked and the investment in art has proven very stable over time. This is true as long as we value art. But art is
valued not only for future monetary magnitude, but also for the pleasure we get from “using” and owning it.
The basement in the past stabilizes it and gives it added value to us.

In my opinion, a good reaction to these facts is to stabilize your own life based on this. There is a so called art of living,
the cultivation of a pleasant and sustainable lifestyle. As we add actual value to our live by the appreciation of
friendship, art, nature, really good food, sports, work … all aspects of life, we ground us more in the past and will be able
to withstand the fleeting changes of the future. More wisdom, strength and beauty in all we do makes a difference.

And the best part is, its fun too.

Webpage found: Olfactory Rescue Service

At the moment I am again investigating the magical and lifestyle uses of fragrance. The topic is somewhat underdeveloped in the magickal community where you find at best some incense burning. In the well known Liber MMM (or also Psychonaut) for the IOT Novice you will find visualisations, object, color and noise concentrations but nothing on your olfactory senses. After learning to smell again I found the whole topic rather interesting and so I was delighted to find the following Blog:

The Olfactory Rescue Service

The ORS exists to review and discuss the world of retail incense in order to help bridge the gap between East and West in terms of understanding incense and helping the reader find higher quality scents, sources for these scents and to connect with others passionate about fine scent.

Since I am based in Germany I need to find different suppliers, but still this is a very nice resource!
